An MBA for the real world

Hi, my name is Professor Martin O'Brien. I'm the Director of the MBA program at the Sydney Business School University of Wollongong.

Well, what sets our program apart is it's very applied in nature. So a successful executive or manager is not going to use a textbook in their day-to-day life and that's not how we teach the MBA.

The MBA tackles real-world business challenges by having a high-level engagement with industry. So we have industry speakers come in as guest lecturers within our subjects. We have a regular masterclass series where industry leaders are talking to our students about issues that don't even show up in our subjects yet.

And we have a client-based project where we have real-life businesses come into the classroom and explain their issues and challenges and students work to solve those challenges in real life. So definitely if you're interested in something that is really relevant to managers and how they need to apply their knowledge in the modern organisation, then I think the Sydney Business School is probably one of the top programs that we have on offer in the country.

Experience an international study tour

As part of your MBA experience, you can choose to participate in a 2-week international study tour where you will meet leaders from a diverse range of organisations. You will learn how these organisations have developed, grown, matured, and regenerated over time, their current challenges and their perception of future trends.

Why did Stan choose Sydney Business School?

Hear from recent graduate Stan Fitzroy-Mendis.

Apply now

I'm Stan Fitzroy-Mendis, I'm a town planner by profession and I've come through and studied an MBA at the Sydney Business School. Having not studied for a long time, I was looking for an MBA program that would be very welcoming and that was friendly and approachable. I wanted to come to a place where I felt comfortable. I wasn't just a number.

Of all the universities and the city campuses, the Uni of Wollongong, Sydney Business School really was a good fit for me. The course content for the MBA program is really on point. We did innovation and strategy and business strategy.

We did leadership as well, which is a really critical part of doing an MBA, which made it really feel relevant as you were going through and I think that's one of the really, really great wonderful things about this particular course.

The thing that really makes the course so wonderful is that it's so contemporaneous. It wasn't just smack down a textbook and go through it. You really, really felt like you were learning stuff as it was happening, which is really fantastic.
